Our Team of Appraisers and Marketers

Edward D. Biggs III, Ed has 44 years in the rail industry. He helped start a shortline railroad in 1977 and has worked for 4 small railroads in operations, management, and sales. He has also spent 22 years with three rail equipment lessors in operations and car management functions. In 2003 he transitioned to being a full-time rail equipment appraiser when he became an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) member of the American Society of Appraisers. Ed has been a speaker at Appraisal Society conventions, The Rail Equipment Finance Conference, and Shippers Conferences.

Johanna is an ASA accredited appraiser who has been working for Biggs Appraisal full time for the last five years, and part time for 3 years prior to that. She actively performs research on a multitude of topics ranging from current economic conditions to rail equipment storage locations. She is also responsible for compiling the annual carload data to produce the commodity charts that are used in all appraisals. Johanna is also involved with the inspection side of the business. She has field experience inspecting locomotives, freight cars, passenger cars, and maintenance of way equipment.

Stuart is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) with over 17 years of full-time experience in rail equipment valuation. As the Managing Director of Biggs Appraisal, he has been leading the firm for the past year, overseeing large-scale portfolio valuations and conducting in-depth research on rail equipment trends.
Throughout his career, Stuart has conducted over 100 field inspections on locomotives, freight and passenger railcars, and maintenance-of-way equipment. He is a recognized expert in the industry and a regular speaker at the annual Rail Equipment Finance Conference, where he presents insights on 6-axle locomotive production trends.

Edward D. Biggs IV, Ed the younger is new to the rail industry. His focus is remarketing and sourcing rail equipment for our clients. As well as promoting Biggs Appraisal and the services we offer.
